A Celebration of Life gathering for Ernest E. “Gene” Moore, 79, of Eldridge, will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Izaak Walton Lodge, 8440 N. Harrison St., Davenport. Cremation rites have been accorded, and inurnment will take place at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery. The Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Moore died Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.
Ernest Moore was born July 20, 1940, in Richwood, W.V., the son of Ezra and Cora (Brewster) Moore.
He served six years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was a 12-year member of the Iowa National Guard.
He married Sandra Erickson on June 5, 1965. She died in 2006.
He retired as a crane operator from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1993.
He was scheduled to go on the Oct. 31 Honor Flight.
Survivors include a son, Ernest E. “Jay” Moore II, Davenport; two granddaughters, Allie and Sydney Moore; two great-granddaughters; his longtime companion, Joyce Long, Eldridge; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Gwen, Noblesville, Ind.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
