Obituary: Elmer Knapper

Elmer W. Knapper, 75, of Eldridge, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Bettendorf Healthcare Center. Private committal services will be held at a later date in Davenport Memorial Park. The Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Elmer Knapper was born Jan. 10, 1943, in Davenport, the son of Elmer and Barbara (O’Brien) Knapper.

He married Camille “Kim” Beckenbaugh in July of 1965 in Low Moor.

He founded Knapper Excavating and Tiling out of Eldridge. In previous years, he had been an equipment operator for various construction companies.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and tinkering with antique tractors and “hit or miss” small engines.

Survivors include his son, Fritz Knapper of Florida; a granddaughter, Ireland Knapper; his sisters, Catherine Knapper (John Gubbings), Linda (Mike) Hancock, Teresa (Keith) Harris, Karolyn (Greg) Good, and Diane (John) Brawley; his brother, Thomas Knapper (Jackie Hamilton Knapper); and a sister-in-law, Donna Knapper.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward W. Knapper and Gary D. Knapper.
