Obituary: Edward 'Ned' Wehr

A funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial for Edward N. “Ned” Wehr, 90, of Davenport, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31 (today) at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Wednesday in the LeClaire Gathering Space at the Cathedral. The Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Wehr died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018.

Edward Wehr was born Feb. 27, 1927, the son of Edward and Marie (O’Brien) Wehr. He attended local schools and graduated from the College of Law at The University of Iowa in 1951.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Patricia Snell on Sept. 16, 1972, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport.

He joined the law firm of Wells & Brubaker until he was appointed Scott County Assistant Attorney, at which time he established his own private practice. He was elected Scott County Attorney for five terms.

He was elected to the Scott County Bar Association Council, the Board of Governors of the Iowa County Attorneys Association, and served as Iowa state president. He was a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers; a fellow and two-term state president of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, and served on the Board of Governors for 10 terms; a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association; and was appointed to the Iowa Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Rules of Procedure. He was a member of the Iowa, Illinois, and Florida Bar Associations. He served on the Board of Directors of the Red Cross; was president of the Scott County Society for Crippled Children and Adults; Easter Seals chairman; co-chairman of the Davenport Lend-A-Hand fundraising drive; served on the executive committee of the Buffalo Bill Boy Scouts Council; a 30-year member of the Contemporary Club; on the Board of Directors of the Area IX United Cerebral Palsy of Iowa; and a life member of the Knights of Columbus.

His hobbies were skiing, watching sports, biking, working out, traveling, and playing baseball and softball.

Survivors include his wife and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne Plum, and a brother, James Wehr.
