A funeral service for Edward A. Bernauer Sr., 80, of Davenport, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation was Friday, Aug. 17, from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary.
Mr. Bernauer died Monday, Aug. 13, 2018, at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
Edward Bernauer was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Davenport, the son of Thomas and Goldie (Wagner) Bernauer.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He married Ella Schmidt. She preceded him in death. He later married Elaine Follis.
He retired from Ralston Nestle Purina after 30 years of service.
His hobbies were being outside and working in the yard, and watching football, racing and baseball.
Survivors include his wife Elaine; his children, Edward (Barbra) Bernauer Jr., Teresa Byers, and Connie (Richard) Bennett; his stepchildren, Sherry (Melvin) Goering, Gary Follis (Jackie Guldenpfenning), Marty Follis, Brenda (Jim) Quinlan, and Tony (Amy) Follis; 29 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ronald Bernauer, James (Karen) Bernauer, and Kenneth (Carol) Bernauer; his sisters-in-law, Elsie Schmidt and Katie Schmidt; and a brother-in-law, Joey VanGorder.
In addition to his wife Ella, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and his siblings, Joe, Mea, a set of twins, Bill, Tommy, Jackie, Margie, Betty, and Elaine.
