Obituary: Duane Dies

Duane Edward Dies, 80, of Winter Haven, Fla., a native of Scott County, passed away July 16, 2019.

Duane was born in Davenport Aug. 22, 1938, to Edward and Mildred (Watkins) Dies. He graduated from Bettendorf High School and was an Army veteran who served in Korea. He worked for International Harvester (Farmall Works) in Rock Island for 28 years. Duane owned and operated Maggie’s Pub and T-Bone’s Tap in Geneseo with his wife Gundrun before retiring to Winter Haven.

Survivors include his wife, Gundrun; his children, Deborah (Gary) DeWeese, Cullowhee, N.C., Pam Bromell, Ballground, Ga., Karla Petty, Ft. Myers, Fla., Eric (Karri) Dies, Princeton; his stepchildren, Gwendolyn (Kevin) Kaszynski, Woodstock, Ill., Gordon Cox, Chiang Rai, Thailand, and George (Jennifer) Cox, Burnsville, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Duane enjoyed golf, coaching, refereeing, and sporting events.

A memorial service is planned for noon on Sept. 28, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. After the service, a celebration of Duane’s life will be held until 4 p.m. at the LeClaire Community Center.
