Obituary: Dallas Rettler

A funeral service for Dallas Paul Rettler, 82, of Davenport, was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial was in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 27, from 1-5 p.m. at the mortuary.

Mr. Rettler died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.

Dallas Rettler was born July 19, 1937, in Harper, Iowa, the son of George and Helen Rettler. He graduated from high school in Davenport.

He served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician’s mate at the end of the Korean conflict.

He married Sharon Lorenzen on June 8, 1960, in Davenport. She died Feb. 7, 2000.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years prior to his retirement.

His hobbies were bowling, watching sports and NASCAR, following politics, and going to the casinos to play the slots.   

Survivors include his daughters Tonya and Tammy Rettler, both of Davenport; a sister-in-law, Ardis Rettler; and a brother-in-law, Robert (Cheryl) Lorenzen.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome.

Memorials may be made to the family or to King’s Harvest Animal Rescue.
