Dale was born on Nov. 26, 1949, in Iowa City to Lawrence and Edith (Hotka) Lacina. Growing up on his family’s dairy farm with five other siblings, he learned the wholesome meaning of community, love and family. After graduating Iowa City High in 1968, he was off to the University of Northern Iowa. Making lifelong friends and memories. Dale graduated from UNI in 1974 for industrial technology. Later deciding to further his education at Saint Xavier University where he received his master’s in education. Dale received honors for his 40 years teaching at North Scott and United Township, retiring in 2015.

Although he had a zest for knowledge, his true passion was his family. Marrying his best friend Mary Jean (Moon) on Nov. 29, 1980, they began their journey together. Bringing three children into the world to cherish. Proud husband and father, his dedication to his family is unsurpassed. Providing a solid rock to lean on and sharing his warm, gentle, welcoming, values from his parents.

One could say Dale never gave himself a dull moment. Staying active over the years with Boy Scouts and his brothers from Troop 43. From fishing, hiking, canoeing, gardening, wine making, monarch enthusiasm (caring for and releasing close to 60 monarchs just this year) Dale was a “jack of all trades” with a wide variety of hobbies and interests. Sharing his knowledge and inspiring others along the way.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; son, Nathan Lacina; daughter and son-in-law, Tamsen and Brian French; sisters, Anne (Ivan) Webber, Janet (Gerry) Carlson, Laura (Chris) Swiser, Clairene (Jerry) Halvorsen, nephews, nieces and extended family.
