Obituary: Dale Burkhardt

A funeral service celebrating the life of Dale Alfred Burkhardt, 89, of Bettendorf, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 24, from 4-7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Mr. Burkhardt died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Dale Burkhardt was born Aug. 30, 1930, in Denver, Iowa, the son of Earl and Melinda (Orth) Burkhardt.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He married Dorothy Horstmann on Jan. 3, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.

He retired from Ralston Purina in 1991 after 34 years of service, and then went to work at River Valley Co-op and Liqui-Grow until he was 84 years old.

He was honored to go on an Honor Flight. He coached youth baseball.

His hobbies were spending time with his family and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Dennis (Judith) Burkhardt, Las Vegas, and Denise (Doug) Miller and Diane (Bob) Rogan, all of Bettendorf; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Memorials may be made to the family or to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
