Obituary: Carol Walsh

A service celebrating the life of Carol L. Walsh, 74, was held at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial was in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, Jan. 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Walsh died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Carol Faur was born Jan. 9, 1946, in Rock Island, the daughter of Helen Hein and Paul Faur.

She married Larry Long. She later married Gerald “Jerry” Walsh, on Sept. 19, 1972, in Aldeo, Ill. He preceded her in death.

She retired from Travel and Transport after 20 years of service. After retirement, she worked at Olathea Golf Course.

She was a volunteer for Star Gifts for Kids and LeClaire Tug Fest.

Her hobbies were spending time with friends and family, helping others, and singing.

Survivors include her children, Loren (Kari) Long and Barry Long, all of LeClaire, Heather (Mike) Becker, Riverdale, and Christine (Scott) Dreher, Urbandale; her grandchildren, Jami (Martin) LaCroix, Justine Baker, Paige (Damien) Bradley, Michael (Megan) Long, Colton Nelles, Taylor Becker, Jordan (Mallory) Dreher, Trinity Long, and Amanda (Josh) Lamar; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Barbara VanHecke, Bettendorf, Judy Wallaert, Moline, and Suzanne Mitchell, Colona, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Judy Seibel, LeClaire.

In addition to her husband, Gerald, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Voorhis; her brothers, Duane Faur and John Hein; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Seibel.
