Chlorine leak causes evacuation at Eldridge water plant

Homes along North 5th and North 6th streets from Donahue to Davenport streets in Eldridge were evacuated after an employee at the City of Eldridge Water Plant detected a chlorine leak during routine morning operations.

The plant is located at 503 W. Donahue St.

The plant was evacuated and emergency services were contacted. The Eldridge Fire and Police departments responded to the scene, as well as members of the Scott County Sheriff's Department, Davenport Fire Department, and Hazardous Materials Team.  Medic EMS also responded, and reported no injuries.

The leak was contained at approximately 9 a.m. 

Residents were evacuated, and the Eldridge Community Center was opened as a temporary emergency shelter. The city has now given an all clear for residents to return to their homes. 

The city reported that the public water supply was not affected by the leak.
