1979: North Scott Jazz Band wins Class A state championship

April 26, 1979: In their first trip to the state jazz band competition, the North Scott Jazz Band, directed by Dan Anderson, brought home a Class A state championship. Several musicians won individual honors. Kevin Halstead was selected as one of the four top musicians in the state. Alan Goldis received an honorable mention. Outstanding solo awards went to Jim Williams, Rob Medd, Craig Welsh, George Shreves and Roger Gilbert.
