July 20, 1978: Plans were announced for the opening on July 25 of the Iowa Machine Shed, a new restaurant “dedicated to the Iowa farmer,” located on highway 130 just south of Interstate 80. Happy Joe Whitty and Dan Whalen were the developers behind the project.
