I will venture a guess that some parents or guardians in the North Scott area would second guess a student’s choice to take an agriculture class.When I encourage a community member to consider enrolling their student in an agriculture class, I am often met with the response, “Sounds great! But our family doesn’t live on a farm.” However, I quickly counter with a common statement among the youth of North Scott, “Bet.”

Congressman Dave Loebsack on Jan. 16 called on U.S. Rep. Steve King (R-Kiron) to resign for the good of the people of Iowa. Loebsack said that while Steve King has a long history of making hateful and disgusting remarks, by having his committee assignments taken away, he is no longer able to effectively serve the people of Iowa.

As children, we dive into the pages of classic picture books such as "Where the Wild Things Are," "The Cat in the Hat," or "Madeline" to be entertained by stories while being carried to other worlds. As time passes, our books morph into novels, textbooks, or non-fiction interests and picture books are forgotten. But picture books should remain on our bookshelves for many reasons.
