'Power Frauen exhibit opens Feb. 29 at GAHC

The new exhibit, “Power Frauen: German Women Who Dared to Dream,” will open with a reception on Saturday, Feb. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the German American Heritage Center, Davenport. There will be live music by Liv Carrow, appetizers provided by Crane & Pelican, and wine provided by The Grape Life.

Future Ready Iowa intern applications open until March 11

Employers, non-profit groups, and educational institutions are encouraged to apply for Future Ready Iowa Summer Youth Intern Program grants, a funding opportunity to place youth at risk of not graduating high school in internships primarily in high-demand career fields. The State of Iowa has appropriated $250,000 to support the Summer Youth Intern program. The application period opened Feb. 11 and closes March 11.

Students pledge to resist drugs, alcohol

Parents, grandparents and other invited guests sat quietly in the Neil Armstrong Elementary gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 22, while in front of them more than 50 sixth-grade students were honored for their pledges to resist the temptations of alcohol, drugs and tobacco.
